Conheça a história sobre os nomes dos municípios
Caeté
A palavra “caeté” tem origem na língua tupi, que dá a ela o significado de “mato denso”. Algumas referências também sugerem que Caeté era nome dado a todo sertão antigo de Minas, portanto, mais uma possibilidade para o nome da cidade. Anteriormente, a região do município era conhecida como Villa Nova da Rainha.
Morro Vermelho
Distrito de Caeté, o Morro Vermelho se localiza a aproximadamente 50 quilômetros de Belo horizonte. Leva esse nome devido à característica geográfica da região, composta de estradas de terra para acesso dos visitantes. No local, é possível visualizar a arquitetura da Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora de Nazaré e da Capela Nossa Senhora do Rosário, bem como a Cachoeira de Santo Antônio
Barão de Cocais
Por volta do século XVIII, bandeirantes brasileiros e portugueses se instalaram na região onde hoje fica a cidade de Barão de Cocais. Inicialmente o local foi chamado Macacos, e depois ficou conhecido como São João do Presídio do Morro Grande. O motivo para essa 2ª nominação foi a proximidade com o Rio São João e a instalação do povoado na base de um extenso morro.
Em 1891, tornou-se o distrito Morro Grande, que, ao se emancipar de Santa Bárbara, virou a cidade de Barão de Cocais. O nome atual é uma homenagem ao Barão José Feliciano Pinto Coelho da Cunha, nascido na antiga vila e que viveu na região por toda a sua vida.
A cidade hoje faz parte do Circuito do Ouro e se destaca pela presença de atrativos naturais e arquitetônicos, como a Cachoeira e o sítio arqueológico da Pedra Pintada e o Santuário de São João Batista.
Santa Bárbara
Localizada ao pé da Serra do Caraça, Santa Bárbara foi inicialmente estabelecida como Arraial de Santo Antônio do Ribeirão Santa Bárbara. Em 1858, foi elevada à condição de município com a nominação Santa Bárbara do Mato Dentro. Hoje é considerada uma das cidades mais bonitas de Minas Gerais e atrai visitantes em busca de contato com a natureza e paisagens exuberantes da serra.
Brumal
Distrito de Santa Bárbara, Brumal já chegou a ser chamado de Brumado, Barra Feliz (1923) e novamente de Brumado (1927). Foi somente em 1943 que o nome atual Brumal passou a ser considerado. O distrito é bastante conhecido pela Cavalhada, festa que acontece todos os anos e que apresenta a batalha entre Cristãos e Mouros, e conta ainda com várias atrações artísticas.
Catas Altas
Último município do roteiro Entre Serras da Piedade ao Caraça, Catas Altas tem como referência para o nome as profundas escavações que eram feitas no alto do morro. Assim como Santa Bárbara, também já levou o complemento de Mato Dentro, que era um termo utilizado pelos Bandeirantes quando avançavam mata adentro.

Um pequeno vilarejo localizado na base da montanha, o Morro da Água Quente fica próximo de atrativos como a Cachoeira do Quebra Dedo e o Pico do Baiano, esse repleto de trilhas para a prática de trekking.
